A “30 lb” recovery tank is sized around water capacity. Liquid refrigerant expands with heat, so industry practice and DOT-oriented guidance keep fill near 80% of usable volume—adjusted for specific gravity. HVAC School and AHRI Guideline K explain the collar math (WC × SG × 0.8 + TW on the scale).

Enter estimated recoverable pounds. The tool picks the smallest VEVOR US class whose 80%-of-nominal shopping ceiling covers that weight: 24 lb for the 30-class, 40 lb for the 50-class. Charges above 40 lb return NO_MATCH so you do not force an overfill.
Before you recover
Use only DOT recovery cylinders—not disposable supply cans. Vent valves correctly, keep a scale under the tank, and operate a certified recovery machine. EPA Section 608 certification and venting bans apply in regulated work. This site is not legal advice.
